DIO: Stand up & Die!. Eagles Ballroom, Milwaukee, USA. 20.10.83
Description
Nice
show, nice recording from this era, but a little bit short. In general a good addition,
nothing else to report.
Dime a Dozen uploader’s notes:
I bought this tape at a Milwaukee record show (hey,
remember those dens of iniquity and general fun events ?)
at least 10 years ago (probably more like 15 years ago) and was told that this
was the complete show and that it was 2nd generation, for what that's worth. I
was NOT at the concert so I (and you) will have to take the dealer's word for
it. That's all I know about this recording, so this will be short and sweet...
It sounds to me like it could be the entire show ; I don't know if Dio was the
opener or the headliner. If you were there, PLEASE chime in with that info. The
sound quality is basically excellent minus with a few minutes total of very
good plus thrown in. That's why I graded it as I did. It sounds to me like the
taper was moving around to get to an optimum sonic point. I've been in the
Eagles Ballroom and as of 2000, it was an open room with a balcony and no fixed
chairs on the floor, so moving around was entirely possible. The acoustics are
OK at least but not the greatest, but MUCH better that the Rave, etc., where
the acoustics are ATROCIOUS (downstairs from the Eagles Ballroom). The
recording has an initial hollowness or boominess to it
but this rapidly improves. The volume levels also sometimes fluctuate which I tried
to improve in a few instances. Otherwise, this is the raw recording with no
other changes present. You are getting what I have. So, due to the moving
around, initial hollowness and intermittent volume fluctuations, I graded this a vg+ to ex-, rather than a straight ex-. Having said that, I think that you folks will be very impressed with
the overall SQ when listening to this on headphones. It is basically
ex-, IMHO as always. If you disagree, that's fine but please don't post
insulting comments such as: you're a deaf asshole, you've gotta
be kidding, you should hear MY wonderful Dio tape,
blah blah blah because, in
the end, I really don't give that much of a fuck. Unless you have a
stellar-quality version of this show in which case PLEASE post it.
Final thoughts ; there is
an excerpt of Lady Starstruck within Track 10, MOTSMountain, that is pretty interesting. The vocals &
instruments are very clear 95% of the time and I believe that you guys will
really like this tape. Virtually NO hiss, distortion,
talking, screaming, whistling, etc. Dio and
crew were having a lot of fun and it shows. That's all that I can think of to
say, so let's wrap this up...
